July
21, 2001, Berlin. 13th Love Parade. "Love"? "Sex and
Booze Parade" would be a more appropriate denomination of the event.
To love somebody also means to care. Most ravers don't seem to care. Terrorizing
others with pea whistles in overcrowded subway cars? They don't care. Pouring
beer over other people's heads? Don't care. They don't care about the environment
either, leaving their garbage in public or private places or front gardens.
The event itself was colorful and loud. Those who thought these were sufficient
reasons to travel to Berlin in scorching heat and traffic chaos will certainly
have been satisfied. This time the parade hadn't been awarded the status
of a political demonstration, which is only right. Still the parade was
a striking argument for one thing: compulsory deposit on beer cans. |
